You Can’t Actually Make Any Money On Social Networks
Funny thing is, there’s no "buy now" buttons on my twitter or facebook account. How about yours?
The reason for that is the only thing you can sell on social media is yourself . Could you believe it? Just plain ole’ quirky, funny, fat, skinny, foreign (or what ever you are) yet powerfully passionate you.
You sell a reason for people who can can serve to get to know you as a socially savvy business woman.
What you can do, since you can’t make any actual money (unless you own the social network) is attract people to you who have problems your products and services can solve through building relationships.
Don’t Waste Time Shouting Into A Black Hole
If no one is interacting with you on social media it’s because your messages aren’t engaging anyone. You’re probably trying too hard to follow the making money with social media myth with over promotion.
If you aren’t adding to the value of a community with educational, enlightening or engaging content, your actually polluting the entire Internet.
Social media need another sales pitch. What is needs is more people willing to trade good content about how to get thinner, be more attractive, cure their toxic relationships etc.
And When They Know How Much You Care…
Your prospects will follow your links to all any place you refer only after they know, like and trust you as the one who can best serve their needs.
You’re followers will grow on twitter and you’ll start to have more notes instead of empty friend requests on facebook and myspace.
Your entire social media experience changes when you stop focusing on pushing a links in everyone’s face. Remember, they really can’t buy anything except you.
Once They Are Sold On You
Your social media status improves, which attracts more attention and more business inquires, and strategic partnerships, website traffic etc.
And who can’t benefit from more of that?
So instead of focusing on making money with social media keep you mind on the discipline of making friends with both leaders in your industry and your potential target market.
As you get intimate with their hearts and minds then you will receive requests from people who want more information and guidance from you.
They will follow your links, share you information and recommend you to friends and associates.
How do I know?
I happens to me everyday now. When it wasn’t it was because I was trying to hard to make money and not to make friends who can benefit from getting to know me and eventually will trust my recommendations without hesitation.

Sounds like social media is good for generating pre-sold traffic as opposed to monetizing that traffic.
Monetizing can happen after your audience has been pre-sold.
Exactly, that’s a much better choice of words Marc, “pre-selling” is what happens in social media. And that is what isn’t rarely ever discussed by anyone… except the members of this site
