P90X: Day6, Week 7 and Still kicking!

12 September 2009

The Savvy Business Mom Gets Back to Fitness with P90X

As I write this I’m still wearing my work out clothes… what’s left of it anyway since I tend to strip at some point with most of the p90X exercise routines.

But, you gotta start sometime, somewhere right and I’m done procrastinating about writing about my experience so far. Plus my twitter tweeples have been asking me questions about it and 140 characters including spaces and all just wasn’t enough.

However, I’m gonna make this quick since it’s my son’s 8th birthday today and we’re about to go celebrating!

As the headline revealed, I’m at the end of week 7 and I just got done with whats called KempoX (following the “doubles” routine. It reminds me a lot of Teabo except Tony Horton does a way better job at keeping count of the reps than Billy.

I intentionally pushed myself a little harder today (this whole week for that matter) since next week is my recovery week which means no weight and pull ups. Unfortunately, that gives me just enough down time to get gloriously sore in my 9th week as I push past old plateaus.

And what a ride it has been

So far I think the program is awesome… but definitely NOT for the faint of heart or those who don’t like to sweat (as one friend, who was asked “when are you due” when she’s not even pregnant, admitted was her barrier to getting started). I’ve only missed 1 day of working out due to an emergency call from the elementary school that my 1st grader thew up his lunch.

Guess the teacher thought it could have been swine flu or something… but I think the lunch was just disgusting since he was perfectly fine the rest of the day.

My second attempt to work out was foiled by my mom’s car breaking down due to a leaking water tank. Yes, even for a superWAHM like me, stuff happens but I made up for it the next day.

I feel myself getting stronger and I see the muscle tone improvement. Although I don’t see myself hitting my ultimate weight goals by day 90 I definitely know I’m getting a great head start on the road to getting “fit-to-strip” by my birthday in March of 2010.

And speaking of my birthday, the whole reason I started this extreme exercise program when I did is because I have a huge goal. I am going to do a photo shot for my first ever swimwear calendar! Now mind you, I don’t have any other reason to do this but for myself.

I’m not a professional model, I’m a mom of three with the kangaroo pouch of a belly and stretch marks to prove it and I happily work from the comfort of my dining room table, the coach or my blackberry while I’m on the go! I have a husband who adores me just the way I am who tells me how much he appreciates that I sacrificed my model figure to bare his children :0).

But, the fact is, my size 4 jeans are tight and the 6’s aren’t as baggy as they used to be from all the sitting I’ve been doing over the last year as I build this and other lead attracting websites for myself and clients.

I’ve been so focused on creating my first million dollar home based business that I let my gym membership close.

But instead of going it alone as I’ve done since my days after track and cheer-leading or hiring the first coach I could find I decided to stay close to home…er, my computer :0) and couldn’t resist the p90x challenge.

What was it that really got my attention?

The 6 days a week program plus the fact that there was actually a work out AND nutrition plan.

No more randomization and stuff left to chance. I knew exactly what I had to do and when. That’s just what I knew I needed. Now not only do I have the time, but the will and the way to make it happen for my self and for my health.

Now what can you expect to hear in future posts in this section?

  • How to prepare BEFORE you buy P90X?
  • What to do right when you get your program?
  • What to expect your first week?
  • Where to get cheap gear you’ll need?
  • How to know if p90x is right for you?
  • What is ‘recovery week’ and what does it mean?
  • How was I able to avoid injury… when my friends didn’t?
  • How is P90X different for women?
  • How to stay focus and motivated when you hate forums?
  • And more as the questions come up!

Oh, and before you ask, I will be posting videos and those dreaded before (Tony calls them “good-bye”) pictures and during pictures too but not before I have the afters. I’m brave but, y’all ain’t ready for this jelly!

Please feel free to post your own p90X experience negative or positive right here in the comments.

Talk soon,

Malika
