What I learned About Internet Prospecting From Being A Porn Star Agent

I learned of and practiced Internet prospecting before I even know what Internet prospecting was out of necessity and creativity but I was too naive to apply it to my Networking business until years later.

You may not know this but not too long ago I was earning an honest living in sunny south Florida as the proud owner a porn star agency called Model Entertainment, Inc.

I actually had a dark gray lancer with: "FunXXXJobs .com 305-975-8618" stuck on the the back window Varsity Letter font, teal, 6 inch letters across the back window.

As a matter of fact, my current myspace profile: www.myspace/monaleeisfun was set up for that business and I’ve never changed it…(mainly because I can’t unless I delete my profile and start fresh)

I was only mildly self conscious picking my daughter up from private school, attend the weekly biz-op meetings and sometimes even going to church with it in the beginning.

But I made no apologies because that business brought in an extra 3-4 thousand dollars a month with very little effort. And the parties I got invited to weren’t boring either!{++++}

In this article I’ll share, since I didn’t lose you in the Intro, what it taught me about Internet prospecting for leads and business partners… another time we’ll talk about the parties if you’d like ;-) .

"So", I would ask"what do you do and what is a deal breaker for you?" Basically asking them to tell me what they were looking to do, expecting to earn and how far they were willing to go to get it (in more ways than one).

Based on the response I knew exactly what the next step would be. Because with each question I knew it was either going to be, "Well. thank you for your time", or, "Okay, I’ll submit your pics to my producers and we’ll be back in touch in 1-2 days."

For me, it didn’t matter because I had a website that got 100 visitors per day with out knowing what the heck we were doing, a small paid ad on a busy industry website, myspace and email address book full of other (beautiful naked) people who are just as willing who were easier to work with (read: they work hard for their money).

And I knew exactly where to find as many leads as I wanted for that business. That was my first order of business when I got started. I knew this business and industry was NOT going to be fore everyone, then again which industry (except for network marketing) is that ever touted as gospel?

This was the attitude I had with my porn agency business.

However, with my network marketing business, not only were the people not as beautiful (and thank heavens they weren’t naked) I never thought to apply the same principles to my prospecting.

I never thought to:

  • Put up a website to attract people who were actively seeking to make money in the network marketing industry
  • Qualify prospects to asses genuine interest matched with pre -set requirements
  • Identify criteria of my Ideal prospects
  • Paying regularly to market, advertise and promote
  • Research My target market
  • Have an abundance mindset of more supply than demand of interested, willing to work prospects
  • Use social media

I handled my agency business likeĀ  I would any business that I took full responsibility for. I see now that I never actually gave myself permission to talk responsibility for starting and growing my business.

It was as if having an upline made me dependent of following someone Else’s game plan. I blindly followed my upline’s every instruction never quite feeling like I had the full story… and I didn’t.

I didn’t because I was ignoring my own voice wanting so much to believe I could rely on the "proven system" to do the work for me.

When I was left to think for myself I instinctively started and built my agency business the way I’m now building my Online networking business.

It now all seems to simple. I felt like an idiot for not connecting the dots earlier until I realized that at least I didn’t continue to limit myself based on antiquated, proven-by-me-personally-not -to-work system.

I followed the plan because I believed Network marketing was somehow different from other times of business and in many ways it is. But, what isn’t different and hasn’t changed in thousands of years is what is takes to be successful in business: laser targeted marketing campaigns, not just warm market lists, and home meetings!
