Don’t Blame Attraction Marketing, You Just Suck!

It’s normal to not get things quite right when you are starting out. Everyone sucks in the beginning of all things. You remember learning how to walk, feed yourself? Maybe thats a little too far back for you. But what about playing football, the violin, skating or riding a bike?

Some of us still have the bruises to prove we never stopped trying… and we also never blamed the bike or the road!

Well how about learning for to master the application of attraction marketing? It’s being blamed for all types of business failures and frustrations.

Is it due to misinformation or low reading comprehension skills? Is one a symptom of the next?

Lets explore the subject when it comes to attraction marketing in this article.

There is a post in the BetterNetworker forums I read today that is titled, “Attraction Marketing Killed My Business”. I must say, that although I understood the point of what the author was saying about not limiting ourselves to just one form of marketing, the principles of attraction marketing are grossly misrepresented.

Is it from misinformation or lack of comprehension or the content?

Like others, even some who have read top notch marketing and prospecting courses like Magnetic Sponsoring , the author has a limited his understanding of what attraction marketing is.

And What EXACTLY Is Attraction Marketing?

But before I get it to what it is, lets clear up what it is NOT.

Attraction Marketing Is Not…

Slaving away at creating great free content then waiting passively for someone to have mercy on you for being so gracious and giving and throw a few pennies your way…

NOPE.

It’s not about being afraid to promote a product, service or business opportunity to other people.

It is not wishful thinking nor is it some new magic formula.

Here’s what Attraction Marketing is:

A way to communicate only with the people who are already seeking what you have to offer and have them feel comfortable enough to initiate contact with you based on their perception of mutual benefit, instead of you trying to create or even identify interest.

Now if you can do that then it doesn’t matter which form of media or advertising you use.

I want to make that clear so I’ll repeat:

It doesn’t matter which form of media or advertising you use!

It can be blogging, social media, forum marketing, press releases, e-bay, funded proposals, article marketing, telephone prospecting, video marketing, ezine advertising, websites, pay-per-click, even person-to-person in your face prospecting is all included in attraction marketing.

Since when did attraction start to mean only free advertising, passive promotion or obscuring your true intentions to ask for the sale?

Please, Don’t Miss The Trees For The Forest

Nowhere in attraction marketing is there a limit to you using low or zero ROI form of marketing. As a matter of fact, if you aren’t seeing a healthy ROI after your systems are in place then I submit to you that you marketing isn’t very attractive at all.

The question is: Is it attractive to your target market?

Do you even know who your target market is for you products, services and business?

If your just spinning your wheels after months of throwing up virtual trash and wondering why only the bar flies and maggots are calling to “reverse prospect” you then, well…. look at your content!

Here are some problems I see occurring often with people who are having poor results with attraction marketing.

1. Undefined or too general target market.
2. A “MeToo” marketing message where you sound like everyone else.
3. Lack of understanding of exactly what to do/say.
3. Poor tracking
4. Poor or no planning before choosing/creating a marketing system
5. Broke and broke minded

Shocking, I know!

So why put your lack of success on your misconception of the timeless, proven and profitable principles of attraction marketing? Contrary to what the author of the above mentioned post said, there is no other more direct form of marketing.

What could be more straight forward than communicating with people who are not only predisposed to your offer but already actively seeking your solutions?

Here are a few alternatives…

Calling $0.02 leads, sending out spam to your friends list? Posting in the biz op section of social communities (where not even the other posters browse)? Wringing your names list one more time? I’m sure there’s someone on your “chicken” list you haven’t accosted yet.

No thanks!

There is nothing more cost effective, more straight forward and more direct response than a laser targeted marketing campaign. No hard close techniques will cultivate win-win personal and business relationships like what has been labeled as “attraction marketing”.

If it “appears” not to be working for you it’s surely based on a mis understanding or a lack of comprehension not on on the techniques that are based on principles as old as evolution of time.
