I’ve been hiding out doing quite a bit of
behind the scenes work so I haven’t had the
chance to send you updates for the past few
days, but there is one thing that has been
going on right in front of everyone’s eyes
that I am completely surprised about the fact
that no one has spoken to.

First let me tell you about the principle and
how it directly relates to your network
marketing business.

It’s called the Hawthrone Effect:

It states . . .

“That there is an increase in worker
productivity produced by the psychological
stimulus of being singled out and made to
feel important.”

In other words, what is tracked increases,
but what is tracked and reported back
increases exponentially faster.

I’ve used this principle throughout my online
career simply by tracking my progress and at
every step possible relying it back to my
team.

They take notice, see the statistics plain as
day and set off to do it themselves.

Why?

Because I’ve proved what I’m reporting to
them works in hard numbers and when I report
it back it brings focus to the information at
hand and they set out to emulate the results.
And they do.

The next application in a network marketing
environment, which is harder to achieve, but
vastly more powerful is this. . .

As you’re training your new team members have
them report back their statistics to you.
This achieves two ends.

1. It makes your new team member focus on the
direct results of their actions and in
reporting it back to you you have the
opportunity to focus on these results as
well.

2. It places significant psychological
importance on the information at hand and set
both you and your new team member of in a
direction of increase the original results.

This principle is extremely powerful and is
not to be overlooked.

But let’s bring the idea home with a recent
live event.

If you are a late night TV watcher you’ll
know what I’m talking about.

A while back on the Conan O’Brian show the host
made the mistake of saying a fictitious
website name . . . HornyManatee.com without
knowing the ramifications, which were, that
for any non existent website mentioned on
that particular network policy states that
the company must take ownership of the
domain.

Conan reported this event back to his
audience in the next show and told them that
the network was now the proud owner of the
previously mentioned website address.

The next day 1.5 million people had visited
the website and again Conan reported this
back to the audience and further showed some
of the comical information that surfers had
submitted to the site.

The next day he did the same, reporting back
that 3 million people had been to the
website. Then last night he did it again and
over 4.5 million people had visited.

That’s the power the Hawthorne Effect.

Of course you are not going to get 4.5
million people to your website with focusing
on and applying the Hawthorne effect in your
business, but you will get large measurable
increases in your success relative to our
example.

That being each time Conan reported back
there had been a 100% increase in site
visited and the same can happen for you.

As a footnote . . .

This email itself is an another example of
the effect. By bringing light to the
principle and now reporting it back there
will be positive results. (Just wish I could
track them to report back:))

My brother called me up the other day to run a money making idea he had past me, his entrepreneurial big sister :0). You see, he’s 24 years old this year, he’s married and has a step daughter to take care of. He’s right at the stage all would be entrepreneurs pass through at one point or another: Your Job is Not Enough!

He says, and I paraphrase:

You get a job and you start thinking about what you’d do if you just made a little more money then you get the raise and realize, it’s still not enough! So instead of scheming on another raise or even a better paying job you start to look for ways to earn extra money on the side. You’re also secretly hoping it’s enough on the side to eventually help you “Escape Cubicle Nation”.

He Drops a Bomb

He’s considering being coming a distributor for a network marketing (MLM) company called Herbal Life, he admits. Umm, no, no no, lil’ bro…. Let’s just say I spoke him him at length about his motivation to and intention behind choosing that route. Objectively, of course.

Basically, he asked me what I would recommend if not that and as you know, I had plenty of ideas ;0).

The Aftermath

I asked him to do an exercise with me before he decided what he wanted to sell, whether he chooses it to still be Herbal Life his own information products or any thing in between at least he’ll know how to market and sell in these Internet based times.

An Exercise in Marketability

He has very little start up capital. So low in fact that I don’t even know what it is. He has no college education. He has an unstable work and rental history. But, what he does have is a long term passion and lofty goals (isn’t hat’s where some of the most prosperous people start though?)

He tells me that he has absolutely no idea where to start and would need me to walk him through all the step by the hand. I’ve always had to take care of him so this is a familiar place :) . Oh, and of course, he expects me to help him for free, right? Right…

So I decided to invite you in on the fun!!

If you join us here’s what you’ll get my VERY best coaching, mentoring and training (after all he IS family) on how to:

All you have to do is submit your name and email address below>>

You will not receive any immediate emails as this is an informal, off the cuff type of training which is why I’m not charging any thing for it… at least right now. I have no idea how long it is going to take because it will largely depend on how fast my little brother is prepared to go.

Disclosure: I make no guarantees that any of this information will be relative or even profitable to you and your business and therefore no income is guaranteed to you. Or my brother, actually :) . Oh, and you will be duly subscribed to my newsletter: Attraction and Conversion with you subscribe to this series of coaching.

Jushoi asks:

How do I qualify my prospects? Meaning, new prospects/strangers are hard to qualify at first meeting… How do I do that?

My Reply:

First meetings with prospects can be tough when you are practicing the principle of the 3 foot rule (Talk to everyone within 3 feet of you about your business). You may not know how much time you’ll have if you’re, let’s say, in an elevator, at the grocer or at a party. That makes it difficult to gauge the ideal time to make your, “would you like to learn more?” pitch to a dvd, weekly call or future presentation/meeting about your business opportunity or it’s products/services.

The best thing to do is be prepared on questions you can ask to quickly expose the mindset of the person you are interacting with. Here are a few tips to qualifying your prospect by looking for verbal and non verbal cues to their openness to what you have to offer.

Today you will learn how to create one of the most important infrastructure of your home based business. Actually, this is the most vital part of any business and is largely either missing, misunderstood or under utilized.

It’s called your sales funnel.

This is where all roads lead to your bank account. And the road is made up con content your create to help “sell-ucate” (selling as you educate) your prospect.

Your sales funnel is important because without it you have nothing but hope that someone somewhere will eventually buy something just because they like you…. or feel sorry for you like that guy singing for change downtown.

By creating a sales funnel gives you control over every step of attracting, seducing and converting your prospective customers and business partners. Continue reading »

Often, in forums and discussions both private and public, I hear business owners (who realize they must become marketers) undervaluing themselves in the name of… well, I’m really not sure!

Some of us when we are new to using social media and the Internet for lead generation we feel it’s okay say things like: “Well, I’m a ‘no-body’” or, “I’m, just starting out” so why should anyone trust me/buy from me/ listen to me or pay be big bucks?”

There is an air of timidity and hesitancy that is sometimes disguised as humility and it shouldn’t be confused.

Hopefully, what ever business you have/started is inline with a life long passion and is backed by your natural talents and/or past expertise. At least that way you can speak on it with the confidence of “been there, done that” instead of feeling like a fraud.

Home based and independent business owners have had enough to worry about when it comes to generating leads in this new economy without having to worry about Twitter and what it takes to meet, connect, prospect and SELL in 140 characters or less (including spaces).

Heck, some of us have a hard enough time meeting, connecting, prospecting and selling IN PERSON ;)

At first glance, it might seem like other social communities like Myspace, Facebook, or even LinkedIn allow you a lot more flexibility in how you can connect and interact with friends and prospects alike.

You can say more, show more images and pictures, and display content in it’s entirety easily.

Could be a good thing, could be a bad thing.

Either way, I’m going to share with you how I use a 160 character bio and 140 character “tweets” to meet, connect, prospect and sell with ease and speed.

If you get this, you will be able to create long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with a dynamic and sharp community of people who are raving fans — not just followers. And you won’t feel like you’re shouting into a black hole when you tweet.

This is a long over due public post. I originally only had this as instructions for my tech team but after questions from inquiring minds who want to know (Thanks Sandy:)), I decided to share this on the blog today.

In this post you will learn how to exclude a page you’ve already created from your navigation bar.

Why Would You Want To Exclude a Page From Your Nav Bar?

If you have pages on your site you’d prefer to be hidden from casual browsers, non-paying members (if you want to start a membership site), of it just doesn’t make sense to have it in the nav bar (like a ‘thank you’, your terms of service, your privacy policy, to name a few) you’d want continue to read below.

Today I’d like to share a conversation I had with my new friend Sharol. If you’re any thing like her and need clarity on your next step in online lead generation, you’ll find this helpful too.

The Brief Synopsis:

Sharol is on the verge of creating her web presence to attract leads and prospects to her home based business.

She recently discovered, as you will if you haven’t already, that traditional ways of prospecting as handed down by the MLM/Network Marketing relics has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

She was feeling discouraged by her dismal results after being a representative for about 18 months, had 8 customer and 3 front line distributors. After a series of breakthroughs and “ah-ha” moments. She asked how we could continue our relationship.

Honestly, I really believe in Sharol’s vision for herself and her business. I get excited when I talk with people who think BIG and are willing to invest the time and energy into personal growth and development through the pursuit of entrepreneurship.

A friend and colleague of mine, Marc, shared a very interesting and hot topic by Darren Rowse at ProBlogger.net with the title: What’s Wrong With Blogging that I found moving enough to share with my own readers.

This was the third time over a span of years that Darren has asked this question and although the post was short and sweet, it’s the responses that are (as the question begs) the meat-and-potatoes.

And what a fest it is!

As some one who uses the Internet and it tools to deliver and share content (blogs, websites, social media) to attract high quality leads I think you’ll find it relevant to your business.
