I’m sharing this because the last email to me illustrates my own misconceptions of when I first started with Online Lead generation and Social Networking just over a year ago.

My response is what I would tell myself if I had a time machine to go back. Since that hasn’t been invented yet, I’ll settle for paying it forward to you. Enjoy!

Email 1: Your Signature Tutorial

Thank you so much for pre-approving friendship requests…I was too embarrassed to ask this question as a response to your forum post.  It was very helpful, but for the life of me I can’t find "User Control Panel" anywhere on my profile!  I’m sure it’s either staring me right in the face or has been renamed.  Have looked under every setting link that seems remotely related.  Would you be so kind as to give me a click-by-click map to it?  Hey, it might even make a great new post for you!

Now that I’ve taken care of a pressing requirement, I’m going back to read the rest of your About Me.  I was intrigued by the first paragraph.

Lesson: Pre-approving friend requests makes it easier to make connections. Be more thorough in my written tutorials and update changes regularly.

Hey C,

Welcome to the community! I don’t know if you got your answer yet but in case you haven’t here’s the short answer: You must click on the "Forum" tab on the blue nav bar on the top of the site…. you know, the one that has Home, Articles, Videos, Podcasts etc. on it?

As soon as you click that you’ll be able to follow the rest of the Instructions (I think). Make me proud with a kick ass siggy now!

Soon I’ll be making a video about it. Or should I leave that up to you? Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with C.

Email 2: Re: Your Signature Tutorial

Thank you Malika, I did indeed find out…it isn’t very intuitive, is it?

Then I was stymied by not having my website up, so I really don’t have a link to advertise.  As it happens, I just had the brilliant idea of using humor and one of my favorite quotes, so I have a temporary signature now.  I look forward to participating more in the community now that I’m not going around with a naked signature.

Go ahead and do your video–I’m not set up for that and you would probably do a better job anyway.  I’m playing catch-up here. :-}

Lesson: Humor is good, use it more often. New people underestimate their natural powers and put off content create too long, like I did.

Now about your misconception of doing the "How to" video…

It’s counter intuitive at first but if you think about it your actually a much better person to do this than me and here’s the proof:

I’m NOT a Newbie

When I created my profile and signature this community was called Magnetic Sponsoring and was an ugly, rigid, orange mess of a site. But, since Mike and his team did such a detailed and wonderful job transferring all the information I’ve never had to go through the "new" process.

I created that signature guide trying to recreate a process I didn’t ever have to do. So it makes me a bit of a fraud actually, and that is why it has gaps.

It’s like a porn star trying to give tips to a virgin by recalling "the first time"… sort of

A real newbie, lie you, going through setting up a signature for the first time would be much more clear and create a more intuitive tutorial than us Magnetic Sponsoring vets.

Warning: Don’t Just Be a Newbie, Be a Smart Beginner!

Being new is a very powerful position to be in as your needs and goals will shape the future development of the training, education and direction of this community and the entire Internet.

You mentioned your not "set up" to create a video and I suggest you make that a non issue right at this moment! Do not let your precious first time moments go to waste on the excuse or not being prepared.

Document everything you do in video, audio and or writing starting today. You’ll need it to attract others like you to you and they will know you understand them. You’ll be speaking as a newbie….eer… smart beginner to another.

P.S. If it was more intuitive my article would not have had a purpose, I would not have written it and we would have never met… hmmm. I don’t know about you but I realize that solving others peoples problems is the master key to prosperity in all areas of life .
