Trying organize Your work schedule around Your Life?…not so easy, huh?

27 February 2009

Question:

I have a private psychotherapy practice in NY. I have..oh I should say "had" 2 offices within 20 minutes of my house. Over the past year my practice has grown and since I work with children, my working hours are after school. My kids (11 and 13 yrs old) have a sitter they like but she’s not MOM. To accommodate their needs, I have reduced my hours at one of my offices and opened an office in my neighborhood. I may not be in the house, but the fact that I’m 2 minutes away is comforting enough for my kids.

I recently wrote, Organizing the Disorganized Child , with Dr. Martin Kutscher, due out in August 09. Networking, blogging, twittering, marketing is so crucial at this point, along with time consuming. I realized that the addicting internet networking sites was occupying too much of my family time. Now I blog during the morning hours or when I’m home alone so I can spend quality time with my family.
I would love to hear from others on how they juggle biz and home.

Infopublishing They key is to find a rhythm. When you go through transition periods you’ve got to plan and pace yourself.

A few things that help me is to work during the times that I am most productive. And only schedule 5 important things to get done in my business every day. I work on them on 60 to 90 min blocks.

I also set the most important things to do at the same time everyday like exercising, eating meals (and hugging your hubby).

A life saver as also been to outsource activities that don’t require YOU to do it like running errands, editing content, transcribing, washing your car etc. a great VA or VA team is an asset not an expense! This helps you to keep focused on the activities that actually produce income for you.

Marcella, I would also suggest you look into creating a series of information products if you haven’t already so you can sell home study course to your clients and put a premium on live time with you.

If you’d like more information on that just let me know, I’d be glad to help.
